Local hike to the highest Santa Monica ‘peak’.
If you go
That’s Sandstone Peak (3,111 ft), the high point of the Santa Monica Mountains, up at Circle X Ranch near the western end of the range. The Mishe Mokwa loop linking up to the peak is the good version — rock formations, a backbone ridge, and ocean views on a clear day. Go early; it’s exposed and there’s no water, and the western Santa Monicas bake by midday.
