Styx Canyon, Death Valley

Our first Uberfest / canyoneering meetup. One of my favorite parks, and we get to explore it in the most epic way most folks can’t. Ran Buttercup, Styx, and Arachnophobia.

Background

Death Valley hides world-class technical canyoneering — narrow slots that require rope, rappels, and real skills, a completely different park than the one tourists drive through. Styx is one of the technical descents on the meetup, a rope-and-rappel route through the park’s hidden narrows.

If you go

Styx is one of the technical slot descents we ran on the meetup — rope work and rappels through Death Valley’s hidden narrows, the kind of route that needs skills, gear, and partners, not just boots. Treat the flash-flood forecast as a hard go/no-go and stick to the cool season. Death Valley NPS.
