Arachnophobia Canyon, Death Valley

Our first Uberfest / canyoneering meetup. One of my favorite parks, and we get to explore it in the most epic way most folks can’t. Ran Buttercup, Styx, and Arachnophobia.

Background

Death Valley hides world-class technical canyoneering — narrow slots that require rope, rappels, and real skills, a completely different park than the one tourists drive through. Arachnophobia, named like that for a reason, is another of the roped slot descents, not a walk-up.

If you go

Arachnophobia is the third of the technical descents from the meetup — named like that for a reason, and like the others it’s a rope-and-rappel slot, not a walk-up. Death Valley canyoneering rewards experience and punishes the underprepared: bring the gear and the skills, go with people who know the route, and respect the flash-flood window. Death Valley NPS.
