Shaver Lake, before the fire

First trip to the area, with Bald Mountain in our sights. This was a few weeks before a huge fire, but it was super cool — did it before I’d really modified my vehicle, and camped around the area.

Shaver Lake sits in the Sierra National Forest above Fresno, with Bald Mountain’s lookout giving the big view over the basin. Hard context for this one: a few weeks after this trip the 2020 Creek Fire ignited near here and became one of the largest single fires in California history, reshaping a lot of this forest. Check current closures and conditions — the burn scar changed access in places.
