Cerro Gordo, the mine and the tram
Did a lap and hung out at the mine and the salt tram.
If you go
Cerro Gordo is a silver-and-lead ghost-mining town perched high in the Inyo Mountains above the dry bed of Owens Lake. It’s privately owned — bought in 2018 by owners who’ve been documenting its restoration — so it’s not a free walk-up; visits are arranged through them. The road up is steep dirt, and the old salt tram that once hauled across the valley floor is a wild relic. Check their site before you point the truck up the hill.
