Monache Meadows for the long weekend

A quick three-day-weekend adventure. Felt like we got one of the last spots and had to go searching.

July 3, 2020

If you go

Monache Meadows is the largest meadow in the Sierra Nevada, out on the Kern Plateau in the Sequoia National Forest. Getting in means a high-clearance dirt drive over Sherman Pass and down to the South Fork Kern, where the PCT crosses; once you’re there it’s dispersed camping in big open country. Holiday weekends pack the good spots, so go early or be ready to hunt — and it’s high enough that nights get cold even in July.
