Big Bear: camp low, ski close
Camped north of the lake to get closer and avoid traffic.
If you go
The play here is camping the north shore (Holcomb Valley, San Bernardino NF) to be parked near the lifts and skip the morning crawl up the mountain, then skiing Big Bear / Snow Summit. Weekend traffic up Highways 18 and 330 is the real enemy of an LA ski day, so beating it by sleeping up there is half the battle. Carry chains in winter.
