San Francisco with the family

August 14, 2015

Went to SF with my family. My mom planned the majority of things, which took us to cool but very touristy spots. We hit the wharf, a cemetery, and the Presidio area, rented bikes and rode across the bridge, and rented bikes in Sausalito where we stayed for a night. I did a run on my own and got to see things like the wharf and up the hill to the Presidio. We also went to Napa Valley in a rental car and did some wine tours. I came away with a lot of information on how vodka is the pursuit of the perfect alcohol. We also did a castle wine tour — probably not the best wine, but I have an affinity for castles.

If you go

Riding a rented bike across the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito and taking the ferry back is the move — it’s the version of the bridge that actually sticks with you, and you skip the climb home. Dress for wind and fog on the span even in August; the city’s coldest stretch is the summer.

The castle is Castello di Amorosa in Calistoga, a full Tuscan-style castle at the north end of Napa. The wine is beside the point. You’re paying for the castle, and that’s allowed.
