We tacked this onto my dad’s Vegas work trip and drove to the South Rim with a simple plan: drop South Kaibab to Phantom Ranch for the night, then climb out Bright Angel. He’s been in and out of the canyon more than thirty times, so the logistics felt smooth before we even stepped onto the trail.

South Kaibab delivers ridge walking, big exposure, and no water until the river. We crossed the bridge by late morning and settled into Phantom Ranch-straightforward bunks that make sense at the bottom. It was also my first overnight carrying a real camera kit, which changed where I paused and what I noticed.

Day two followed the Colorado River before climbing to Havasupai Gardens and continuing up the shaded switchbacks of Bright Angel. Seasonal water at the taps makes that exit far more manageable-always verify status before heading down.

Quick Info

  • Season: Spring
  • Route: South Kaibab → Phantom Ranch (overnight) → River Trail → Havasupai Gardens → Bright Angel

Notes

  • No water on South Kaibab
  • Bright Angel water is seasonal
  • Phantom Ranch bunks via lottery 13-15 months out
  • Shuttle timing affects start and finish

Howdy, and thanks for making it here. I’ve been capturing content and exploring for years, and I’m finally getting the chance to share it.
To keep things moving, I’m rolling this out in phases—photos and quick notes first, then deeper write‑ups, maps/GPX, and print options as I catch up.
