First solo backpack, and I almost got everything in a 15L bag. Ran up after work (literally) from Middle Fork / Lytle, camped at Comanche, then ran/hiked to Cucamonga and the next peak, and returned via Bighorn — jogging home to make a concert with Lindsay back in LA.

Cucamonga Peak anchors the Cucamonga Wilderness in the eastern San Gabriels, usually reached from Icehouse Canyon above Lytle Creek. At 8,859 feet it’s a big front-range day, and doing it fastpack-style out of a tiny bag is an exercise in cutting everything to the bone.
If you go
Cucamonga Peak (8,859 ft) anchors the Cucamonga Wilderness in the Angeles National Forest, usually reached from Icehouse Canyon / Middle Fork above Lytle Creek. Doing it fastpack-style out of a 15-liter bag is a fun exercise in cutting everything to the bone — just respect that it’s still real mountain country with water you have to plan around. Adventure Pass plus a self-issue wilderness permit.
