A cyclocross day at Lake Casitas

Quick CX day at Lake Casitas. Terribly out of shape but happy to get out there. Sad to see it shrink so much post-COVID, and I heard the trailer burned in the Palisades fire. Survived the mid category and actually placed in the singlespeed. Also explored downtown Ojai.

Background

Cyclocross is the fall-and-winter discipline — short, lap-based courses with barriers you dismount and shoulder the bike over, ridden in any weather. Lake Casitas, just outside Ojai, is a longtime SoCal venue, and the singlespeed category is the rowdy, no-excuses one.

The scene

Cyclocross is the fall-and-winter discipline — short, lap-based, with barriers you dismount and shoulder the bike over, run in any weather. Singlespeed is the rowdy, no-excuses category, and placing there off no fitness is the kind of small win the sport is built on. Lake Casitas sits just outside Ojai, which is worth the wander into town afterward.
