Beech Mountain and the Appalachian Trail
Ran up to Beech Mountain, where Lindsay’s family has a cabin. Explored the area, attended the Scottish games, got connected with my McCoy heritage, and hiked an overnight on the AT not too far from the cabin.

Background
Beech Mountain is the highest town in the eastern US, up in North Carolina’s High Country, where the Appalachian Trail runs through the Roan Highlands nearby and the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games draw the clans every July. It’s green, humid hiking — a different animal than the dry West.
