Mountain High sits above Wrightwood in the San Gabriels, and in summer the lifts give way to hiking in the high Angeles National Forest country around Mt. Waterman. Wrightwood itself is a small mountain town people end up cabin-shopping in — it’s that kind of place.

In summer the Mountain High area around Wrightwood trades skiing for hiking, with Mt. Waterman and the high San Gabriel country nearby. Dry-land self-arrest practice (drilling the ice-axe save on a grassy or dirt slope) is exactly the kind of off-season rep that pays off in winter. Wrightwood itself is a mountain town people end up shopping for cabins in — it’s that kind of place.
